RICHMOND, VA // MATH-DREAM-HEAVY
01 minnow was:
Formed in the aftermath of SuperJet Joyride, 01 minnow became a band in Richmond, VA in the summer of 1993. They existed for about 4 years in the context of Richmond's punk/proto-emo scene and the creativity coming out of the Art Department of Virginia Commonwealth University. They were a part of the local DIY scene and their mathy/dreamy/heavy/music-boxy sound was both a compliment and a contrast to a lot of awesome bands in RVA at the time.
01 minnow played shows at local venues like Twisters, Hole in the Wall, and The Metro. They also played shows at myriad punk houses and parties in VA and North Carolina.
Various practice space recordings from 1993-1997, recorded on a boombox named FUNERAL likely still exist in the basements and hearts/memories of band members and roommates.
In 1995 they recorded a 4 song cassette, often referred to as The Atari Invitational Cassette.
In 1995 they released a self titled 7 inch single on Irony Recordings.
In 1997, they began recording in the studio again, but disbanded prior to finishing those songs.
In 1997, Nathan, Pat, and Tod formed South, and published a self titled album on Jagjaguar, which was released in 1998.
